Feral cats (Vampirismus scopulatus) can become extinct after their fangs are killed; their skin color change to black, they take a little longer to develop, and their numbers have dwindled, making them the most venom-thirsty felines we know of on the planet. Some of them live to be as old as 60, but we can't rule out the possibility that they may return.

Feral cats are not completely extinct, however. So far, only the great feline lion, which was hunted to extinction by Europeans to make way for tigers in the 19th century, has died off. If there's an obvious cause, that's most likely because the cats need food, with less of it coming from humans. That may turn out to be the main reason why cats like us may have died in the first place.

So it's clear this would seem like a good time to start a petition for a ban on feral cats.
