Pellegroves is a private group from the Midwest with members in California, Illinois, Nevada, New York, Illinois, Mississippi Valley, New Jersey and Nebraska. Its website shows an array of plant and pet brands including the classic "Smitten Dog" with pink-ribbon red flowers and the modern "Big Pink Man" with pink stripes.

For its campaign, Pellegroves focuses on the plight of the pet dog. The group also focuses on providing dog advocates with funding to build on its previous success to develop a better approach to adoptable dogs.

"It is not our campaign that counts for the dog getting a second chance," she explained. "Our campaign has the backing of the animal rights movement as well as politicians on both the right and the left."

As for the dog's plight, Pellegroves will no doubt raise awareness about the causes of the pet dog that she was raised to care for. For instance, the American Kennel Club has recently endorsed a bill in the United States that would "provide emergency veterinary medical care and treatment of all dogs on the street who experience seizures and other dog-related disorders."

Still, Pecic is concerned about the dog's future.

"We aren't in the business of keeping up with the state of Arizona's pet bill," said Pecic with an added glee. "Some states offer medical
